EXPAT IN THE PHILIPPINES | WHEN YOU FIND YOURSELF CRAVING PERUVIAN, “AROS CON MARISCOS” IN MANILA.

SAMBA Peruvian Restaurant is one of my favorite upscale restaurants in Manila. Peruvian Chef Carlo Huerta Echegaray and his team know how to delight visitors and keep them coming back by keeping the tantalizing flavors of Peru alive in their dishes.

One of my favorite dishes at SAMBA is Aros con Mariscos. This whole grain rice dish loaded with Seafood is colorful and scrumptious.

In between ordering and waiting, there is just enough time to swing by the bar and sneak in a smooth and frothy glass of Pisco Sour. I love this classic Peruvian cocktail because of its earthy, sweet and sour taste. Pisco Sour is made by blending pisco, lime juice, egg white, sugar syrup and Angostura bitters. Tres Leches which literally means three milks is a “light” sponge cake soaked in sweet milk. This simple Mexican desert is my weakness and one of my favorites. I have a sweet tooth but not necessarily a dessert person especially after devouring a whole plate of rice but there are exceptions and Tres Leches is one of them. It is a mind blowing sweet indulgence, even picky eaters find themselves licking fingers.

What’s more, SAMBA does a good job at presenting this cake. It is instagram-ready by the time it lands on the table. You almost don’t need a filter.
