SWITCHING OFF AND TAKING A BREAK TO RECHARGE.

Yoga has become a big part of who I am. It calms me down. Grounds me. Allows me to disconnect from everything around me and connect with myself inwardly. The more I practice and venture into the different aspects of yoga, the more I find myself relating to these powerful words by The Bhagavad Gita.

“Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self.”

I have been up and about for the past three months and this has naturally thrown me off my yoga routine and practice. Lately I have been emotionally overwhelmed and I find myself sweating the small stuff. I woke up this morning and felt the urge to declutter my mind and do a mental detox. I made a conscious decision to sign out of my active social media accounts, switch off my phone and rolled out my yoga mat.

I found a beautiful spot in my Mother-in-law’s garden amidst her pots of plants. Surrounded by green. The color of nature, a symbol of life, energy and renewal. This mornings cold crisp air was energizing and refreshing. Today’s movements and transitions were slow and subtle. It felt like coming back home to myself. I also started reading; Rising Strong by Brené Brown. I have just turned a few pages and I must say it is profoundly beautiful and inspiring. Have you ever read a book and felt like the author was talking to you?

Engaging in our lives from a place of worthiness. It means cultivating the courage, compassion and connection to wake up in the morning and think, no matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough. It is going to bed at night thinking, Yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid, but that doesn’t change the truth that I am brave and worthy of love and belonging.
